Sustainable Tropical Landscape Design in Makali, Near Nelamangala
Located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, Makali near Nelamangala offers a semi-rural charm with a warm, dry climate and seasonal rainfall. Designing a tropical garden in this context required a blend of ecological sensitivity and functional planning to create a landscape that is both inviting and self-sustaining.
We began by grading the land to support rocky percolation streams—natural-looking drainage elements that slow and absorb rainwater, recharging the ground and adding character to the landscape. A Tulasi Katte was thoughtfully positioned to integrate spiritual tradition into everyday use.
To support lifestyle needs, the design includes a shaded seating area, ideal for relaxation and small gatherings, surrounded by native hedges and layered plantings. A curved walkway ties together the garden’s diverse zones: kitchen garden, and children’s play area—each designed with practicality and ease of maintenance in mind.
We introduced a compact fruit orchard with regionally appropriate species to provide seasonal yield and cool the microclimate. An informal gathering zone offers flexibility for hosting guests, casual get-togethers, or peaceful solitude.
This landscape is a testament to how resilient, climate-aware design can enhance rural properties, blending ecological function with lifestyle aesthetics to increase both property value and quality of life.
