Crafting a Functional Tropical Landscape in Mysore’s Climate
In Mysore, where the climate ranges from moderate to hot with dry spells, creating a lush tropical garden requires thoughtful planning and climate-sensitive design. Our landscape design for this project seamlessly blends utility, tradition, and aesthetics to transform the outdoor space into a vibrant, functional sanctuary.
The site was carefully graded to integrate rocky percolation streams—not just as water management tools, but as natural design features that celebrate the region’s monsoon-fed landscape. A Tulasi Katte was positioned as a sacred focal point, offering spiritual grounding in the garden’s layout.
The design also incorporates a covered seating area for five, nestled among layered hedges and flowering borders, offering shade and tranquillity throughout the day. A winding walkway connects the landscape’s various features: a cozy dog house, a productive kitchen garden, and a safe, open play area for children.
A small fruit orchard brings seasonal abundance and supports local biodiversity, while an informal gathering space offers flexibility for family events or peaceful solitude. Each element was chosen to reflect Mysore’s cultural warmth and the city’s connection to both tradition and contemporary living.
This project stands as a model for how resilient, regionally adapted landscape design can elevate not only a property’s usability and beauty but also its ecological and emotional value.
